The Environmental Justice Research Alliance (EJRA)
Story
The Environmental Justice Research Alliance (EJRA) supports communities and movements on the front lines of climate change and environmental discrimination as they build knowledge and capacity to mitigate environmental impacts. Indigenous, Black and other racialized communities lead all our initiatives. They have a profound understanding of the impacts of climate change and industrial development on their lands and lives. They seek to generate new knowledge about impacts and solutions but often lack the time and resources to carry out this work.
EJRA supports the research activities that front-line communities need in order to reduce emissions, resist unwanted development and defend their rights. Our priority is to directly support front-line communities as they build the community knowledge they need to address injustice and find solutions.
We coordinate a large network of research volunteers from universities across Canada to serve community-led projects. Our volunteer teams help conduct literature reviews, statistical analyses, field monitoring and other research activities that support communities as they challenge harmful industrial development and find solutions to a changing climate.
We also support these communities as they share the results of their community-led research and knowledge-building activities with the general public. Public education is essential to their fight for a healthy environment and to broader movements for just climate action. When communities share their knowledge, and the world listens, action that prioritizes marginalized communities becomes possible. EJRA supports communities as they share their knowledge with the general public and engage the media in press conferences and outreach campaigns.
Our work increases community capacity to harness shared knowledge and use this knowledge for just climate action. The proven results are that front-line communities are better able to withstand the effects of climate change and industrial development and address the drivers and root causes of these injustices.
Your support will help communities and movements build capacity to protect the environment for themselves and the entire planet. Donate now to help transform this country away from extractive, exploitative systems toward ones of regeneration and care for people and for the planet.
